CBN oil explained — and where to buy it in Australia

CBN oil explained: cannabinol is a minor cannabinoid, and ours is a THC-free isolate in MCT. Compare strengths from $89.95 and buy in Australia, across .

CBN oil is a single-cannabinoid product — an isolate — meaning the bottle contains cannabinol and nothing else alongside a neutral MCT carrier. It is THC-free, ships to Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and everywhere else in Australia, and is described here strictly by what it contains.

CBN oil isolate explained for a national audience: cannabinol, THC-free, in MCT carrier

CBD Oil Australia is an online CBD oil retailer shipping across Australia. Every product we stock is described by its measurable composition — the cannabinoid, the format (isolate or spectrum), the milligram strength and the carrier oil — and never by what it might do. CBN oil gets particular attention here because cannabinol attracts a lot of loose language online. This page keeps strictly to the facts: what an isolate is, where CBN sits in the plant, how it differs from CBD and CBG, and what the label on our bottles actually says.

What "isolate" means as a product format

Isolate is the simplest cannabinoid format: a single compound, extracted and separated from everything else the hemp plant contains.

The hemp plant (Cannabis sativa L.) produces dozens of cannabinoids. Most extracts — full-spectrum or broad-spectrum oils — keep several of them together in the bottle, which is what "whole-plant" means. An isolate goes the other way: one compound is singled out, and only that compound ends up in the final product. There are no other cannabinoids, no terpenes, and because the isolation process removes them, no THC either.

CBN isolate is therefore a very short ingredient list: cannabinol, dissolved in MCT carrier oil. The bottle does not need a spectrum descriptor — there is nothing to describe beyond the one compound and the carrier. That simplicity is the defining characteristic of an isolate, and it is the format we use for our CBN oil across the whole range.

Where CBN comes from in the hemp plant

CBN (cannabinol) is a minor cannabinoid that forms from another compound already in the plant.

Hemp plants produce CBNA (cannabinolic acid) naturally as they mature, but CBN is also produced when THCA — the acid precursor to THC — degrades over time through exposure to oxygen and light. That oxidation process converts THCA into CBNA, which then decarboxylates into CBN. It is a slow, natural chemical change rather than a biosynthetic pathway the plant actively pursues. The practical result is that CBN occurs in older or more thoroughly processed hemp material, and it is present in much smaller quantities than the major cannabinoid CBD — which is why CBN oil is a minor-cannabinoid product and why the supply chain for it is narrower.

None of that origin story says anything about what CBN does. It is a description of chemistry and plant biology, and it explains why the milligram figures on a CBN oil label matter: the compound is less abundant, so a bottle's concentration tells you quite a lot about what went into making it.

CBN, CBD and CBG — three separate cannabinoids

These three cannabinoids all come from Cannabis sativa L. and are sold by CBD Oil Australia as distinct products. The comparison below is compositional only.

CBD (cannabidiol) is the most abundant cannabinoid in hemp. We sell it in two spectrum formats. Full-spectrum CBD oil is a whole-plant extract that keeps CBD alongside the minor cannabinoids and terpenes from the same source, including a legal trace of THC under 0.3%. Broad-spectrum CBD oil uses the same whole-plant starting point but has the THC removed, leaving the rest of the hemp compounds intact.

CBG (cannabigerol) is the cannabinoid that the plant synthesises first — before converting it into CBD, THC, CBN and the others. It is the parent compound of the cannabinoid family and is scarcer than CBD at harvest. We sell it as a standalone isolate: CBG oil.

CBN (cannabinol) is the subject of this page: a minor cannabinoid formed through the degradation pathway described above, supplied as a THC-free isolate. The three products represent three points on a spectrum from whole-plant (full-spectrum) through whole-plant-minus-THC (broad-spectrum) to single-cannabinoid (CBN or CBG isolate). Format and compound are the differences — not a hierarchy of quality.

Our CBN oil: strengths, per-mL figures and packaging

Our CBN oil is cannabinol isolate in coconut-derived MCT carrier, in a 50 ml dropper bottle. The full ingredient list is printed on the label; there are no additives.

It comes in three strengths, each a different total-milligram count for the same 50 ml volume:

At 50 ml and a 0.5 ml dropper serving, every bottle provides approximately 100 measured servings regardless of strength. The milligrams-per-millilitre figure changes; the serving count stays the same. Prices are shown in full on the shop page in Australian dollars. The oil is made for EU Labs in Amsterdam and dispatched from within Australia to Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and the rest of the country.

Every batch is third-party lab-tested and a Certificate of Analysis is available on request. Email [email protected] with the batch number printed on your bottle and we will send through the matching COA.

Reading the label before you buy

A CBN oil label carries four things worth checking before you order, none of which is a dose recommendation — that is a personal matter, and our guide to using CBD oil explains how to measure a serving, not how much any individual should take.

Total milligrams is the first number to find. It tells you the total cannabinol in the whole bottle, not the per-serving figure. Higher milligrams means a more concentrated product in the same volume.

Milligrams per millilitre is the more useful comparison number. For our three strengths it is: 1000 mg ÷ 50 ml = 20 mg/ml; 3000 mg ÷ 50 ml = 60 mg/ml; 6000 mg ÷ 50 ml = 120 mg/ml. This is the figure that tells you how concentrated each dropper-pull is.

Carrier oil should be named on the label. Ours reads MCT (coconut-derived). Knowing the carrier matters for anyone with a coconut allergy.

THC content and COA reference — our CBN oil is a THC-free isolate. The Certificate of Analysis for the batch is how you verify that figure rather than rely on the packaging alone. The batch number is on the label; cross-reference it with the COA we provide on request.

The full product range lists every strength side by side so you can compare the per-ml figures and pricing directly.

CBN oil and the national TGA framework

Cannabinoid products in Australia are regulated at the national level by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), the same framework that applies whether you are in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth or Adelaide. We describe our oils strictly by composition — a THC-free cannabinol isolate in an MCT carrier — and we make no claims about therapeutic effect or medical use. The current scheduling rules for cannabidiol and other cannabinoids are on the TGA website. Our CBN oil is sold to adults aged 18 and over only and is not suitable for anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding.

Questions about CBN oil in Australia

What is CBN oil? CBN oil is a product that carries cannabinol — a minor cannabinoid from the hemp plant — dissolved in MCT carrier oil. We supply it as a THC-free isolate and describe it by composition only.

What does "isolate" mean on a CBN oil label? Isolate means a single cannabinoid has been separated from all the other compounds in the plant. A CBN isolate contains cannabinol and the carrier oil; nothing else.

Is CBN the same as CBD? No. CBD (cannabidiol) is the most abundant cannabinoid in hemp. CBN (cannabinol) is a minor cannabinoid that forms through the degradation of THCA. They are chemically distinct compounds. We sell CBD as full-spectrum and broad-spectrum oils, and CBN as an isolate.

Does CBN oil contain THC? Our CBN oil does not. It is a THC-free isolate, confirmed by third-party lab testing for each batch.

Is CBN oil legal in Australia? Cannabinoid products fall under the national framework regulated by the TGA. We describe our product by its composition and make no health claims. The TGA is the authoritative source for current scheduling rules.

Where can I buy CBN oil with national delivery? Online, from CBD Oil Australia. We post to Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and all other locations across Australia. Browse every strength on the product catalogue.
